2 - Measure your area
It may seem obvious but it’s important to measure the area where you want to install your artificial turf. Before you begin installing your artificial grass measure the length and width of the required area a couple of times before purchasing your artificial turf.
Another helpful tip is to allow some extra turf on each side to allow trimming with a knife during installation. There is nothing worse than being caught short… right guys?
3 - Location, location, location
Artificial turf is very versatile and can be used in many different applications. However, it’s important that the area where you are installing your turf is as level as can be. Review the place where you want to install your new artificial lawn. Make sure that the ground is even and remove any debris, tree roots etc, before you start the installation process.
Ensure you’re choosing the artificial lawn that suits the location you’re planning to fill. (See talk to the experts) So your turf will last and look great for many years to come. The flatter the surface the better your fake turf will look. You can definitely install artificial grass on steep or sloping blocks, you just want to ensure that your base is smooth.
4 - Beware of drainage issues
While most artificial turf is actually more effective at draining than conventional grass, it does need base materials to help the area drain quickly and prevent any pooling.
Otherwise your new artificial lawn could be ruined before you’ve had time to enjoy it. This is another reason its important to talk to the experts first, we can help guide you as to how to help with drainage issues, especially if your installation areas is dead flat or sloping the wrong way.
5 - Don’t forget about weeds
Even with artificial turf, weeds can be a serious problem if you don’t install correctly.
When you have cleared the area of any vegetation or debris, you need to make sure that grass, weeds, or plants won’t grow back under your artifical turf. To do this you need to spray the entire area with weed killer. Do this on a dry couple of days so your weed killer has time to soak in and not get washed away in the rain.
When you install your artificial turf you will have a layer of crusher dust, when this gets compacted you can spray lightly with the hose. This almost ensures a concrete barrier between the ground and the strong rubber backing of your new artificial turf. This doubles as a fantastic weed barrier. If you do ever notice a weed poking through, simply pluck it out of the fibers and spray the area with a weed killer….simple.
